Design Chambers working towards Net Zero

To this day, a project I undertook in Primary school about British Birds of Prey is still fresh in my memory. It was the first of many projects that got me thinking of layout and illustration and possibly part of the reason for my continued love and interest in wildlife and the outdoors.

This interest of wildlife and the greater environment has now been passed down to my two sons. They both also love the outdoors. Their memories of childhood are of our woodland and forest walks, seeing wildlife such as fallow and muntjac deer, foxes, badgers, bats and hearing the calls of the red kites above.

Our local area, like many, has seen lots of housing development. We were chatting on one of our walks about the pros and cons of development. The boys’ main concern was that the homes, woodland and open spaces, of the animals they love were not considered by our human need to create homes for ourselves.

Our conversation progressed, and as only a 9-year old can, I was put on the spot and asked directly by Austin (my eldest child) whether personally and as a business I could do more for the environment.

This got me thinking and looking into various ways as a company we could reduce our environmental impact and carbon footprint. I discovered that measuring your environmental impact and finding out what you could do about as a business owner to make improvements was complex.  I learnt of Wenta’s ‘Net Zero My Business’, which helps companies to unlock Net Zero opportunities, and helps businesses to be at the forefront of tackling climate change and producing greener products and services.

I feel that at Design Chambers we have always had a desire to be green but have never formalised what that means for us. We have a long way to go and are only at the beginning of our green journey, but we have made a step in the right direction.

I am proud to say that we have already achieved a Bronze accreditation in Wenta’s Net Zero Future.
